Cold Porcelain Recipe

Hi friends
I was requested to post the recipe of the cold porcelain by some craft enthusiast. As promised I am writing this post for them. The thing is,I am not a pro either.I have just discovered the wonders of the cold porcelain.cold porcelain  dough can be bought from the market, there are many branded dough….like hobby ideas and  now some Chinese companies are also coming up with  cold porcelain dough in a very competitive price…the good things about these ready made doughs is ,you don’t need to add colours and it has even textures which adds a special look in your every cold porcelain crafts.
The post where I added some snaps of my first cold porcelain project got attention of my fellow crafters.thank you .since it was my first project I was willing to try the home made recipe..and honestly I guess, the cost was much lower than the dough that are available in the market.
of course it will take much practice to give the finish of a factory made dough….but  should not  it be the aim of  all craft artist?
Before I describe the recipe.I would like to thank Helan Shanta Kumari who was kind enough to teach me the recipe.she is a housewife and craft is her passion..she has a blog where she showcased her cold porcelain creations….I liked her work very much…thank you verymuch  Helan.

Here's how you make the dough
Corn flour -- 1 cup

fevicol or white gum -- 1 cup

glycerin -- 1 tsp

lime juice -- 2 tsp

zinc oxide powder - 1/2 tea spoon

mix all the things in a frying pan and keep the flame at its minimum. stir continually and eventually it will become as chapatti dough.

At this point remove it from the heat and mix  any oily moisturizer with the dough  by your hand like parata dough.

keep it in an air tight box or cover  it for 15 mins.

if possible separate the dough in to small balls to mix colors as per the requirement -- use acrylic colrs / fabric colors.

Avoid mixing pearls colors as they wont be bright, you can use pearl colors when finishing touch is given.

After completing the desired object
varnish the entire thing so that after a long time you can even wash the object.

If you have any querries please  write to me.
here is the link of my first cold porcelain project
bye.

Wreath

Hi Friends!!

These days I am really obsessed with Wreath-making, because its a new avenue to me which I never tried before.  There are so many beautiful Wreath -making ideas all over the net!! This wreath which I have made here was inspired by those.Since I always believed in  DOING MORE WITH LESS,I peeped in to my craft-chest to find what I already have...I found that I had everything which was needed to make a simple wreath.Since its my first attempt of  Wreath-making ,so it was more than enough supply which I needed.

I am very happy that I could  use some of the things which had been there in my house for several years, here I have used some dried pricky fruits(Sorry I don't know the name) which I picked up from Botanical  Garden in OOTY.

Final Thought is , when ever I see these ,I  always feel  that its has an auspicious warmth about it,its more like a lucky charm, a symbolism of togetherness and unity.

bye.

Glass painting: Photo Frame

Art is the only way to run away without leaving home. ~Twyla Tharp

As the chosen quotes goes, I also feel that whenever we are lonely or have some times for ourselves, we should use it constructively by living in the moment. Without watching TV or indulging in gossip we can use those few moments in nurturing our inner child or sweet memory from the past…so to keep our memory alive in our heart and eyes all we need to do is make a special photo-frame for our most beloved memory.

Things you need :
• A piece of clear glass (small, medium or large depending on the size of the photograph you want to frame)
• A design/pattern
• A bit of nail-polish remover
• A cotton ball
• A white piece of paper (same as the size of the glass)
• Glass color pack
• Sparkle dust
• A marker pen

Duration: 2 days.

First step:

Buy a glass from the local glass-shop. Start with a glass of medium thickness. Make sure the edges are not sharp as we don’t need bloodshed!!! Ask the seller to grind the edges.
Clean the Glass with nail polish remover and cotton.
Second Step:

Choose a suitable design/pattern for the photo frame. It’s better to choose anything which goes with the “sweet memory”. You can draw it yourself.
Here are some ideas:
Generally flowers, birds, vine-yard will be good to choose. For baby-photos cartoon characters’ or cute animals would go very well. For married couple or to present to your beloved love quotation or hearts will be just great.
The bottom line is you can choose anything you want and whatever it is, make sure it fits in well with in any of the 4 corners. You can go for pattern-borders also.

Third Step:

Place the photograph you are planning to frame, under the glass, and draw a border around with the marker .Place the pattern of your choice under the glass, in any corner of the glass. Now draw the pattern exactly on the glass with the black glass- liner provided with the glass color- set.
The borders of the photograph also needs to be drawn with the black glass liner. The outside of the border should be filled with a design, as for the beginner, it’s better to keep it simple. Draw zig/zag lines using the same black liner.
Now you are free for the day as the liner needs to be dried overnight. Keep the glass someplace safer.

Next Day::

Fourth Step:

Time to fill the colors. You can always experiment with colors!!
In this photo-frame I have used cherry red and golden yellow for the roses. In order to merge two colors together ,all you have to do is to fill a petal with cherry red a bit then rest with the golden yellow. Mix it with the nozzle of the color-tubes. Likewise you can color other petals’ and leaves’( for leaves I have used deep green and lemon yellow)
For the butterfly, magenta for the wings and brown for the body of the butterfly. I have used some blue sparkle dust on the wings to give the butterfly a simmering look.
For the background I have used turquoise .For the borders I have used yellow and purple( mix of turquoise and magenta)

Fifth step: Let it Dry for 24 hours. frame it with the picture.

Congratulate yourself .Now you have got your very own photo-frame .This may come within 70-80 rupees but will hold and cherish a lifetime of memory and happiness.
Bye. Be creative and be happy.

P.S. Art consists of limitation. The most beautiful part of every picture is the frame. ~G.K. Chesterton

Perfume-Making

A perfume is an intimate object, it is the reflector of the heart.
Emanuel Ungaro

Hi
Greetings for the day!!

Perfumes were ever an Important part of every culture of the world .The history of perfumes began in antiquity. The Word perfume came from the Latin word "per fume" which means "Through Smoke".

The art of making perfumes began in ancient Egypt but developed and further refined by Romans and Arabs.Perfumes also existed in India, much of it were incense based. The earliest distillation of ATTAR was mentioned in "Charaka Samhita"

Perfume is a mixture of fragrant essential oils or aroma compounds, fixatives and solvent used to give human body ,objects and living spaces a pleasant scent.

In this post I wish to discuss ,how to make a home made room-freshener.
The ingredients you need are:
1.alcohol : 30ml

If you are a beginner ,its recommended to start with a small quantity.

2.Fixolite : 4 pinch

Its a substance which will help the perfume to bond.

3.Essential Oil: lavender 1.5 ml,Fresh-lime 6/8 drops( use a dropper)

Lavender is one of the most nostalgic fragrances. It is one of the most versatile oils in nature. The fragrance is very relaxing and calming to the body and mind. That is why it is a “must have” for the home! While lavender can help with your sleep and mood, it also has a wide range of health benefits. it helps in treating migraines, headaches, anxiety, depression, nervous tension and emotional stress. The refreshing aroma removes nervous exhaustion and restlessness and increases mental activity.

Fresh-lime has a refreshing scent.

4.Very little of any edible color, preferably red.

5.A reusable perfume bottle.

6.A measuring funnel.

Procedure:
Take the resuasble perfume bottle and pour alcohol, fixolite, lavender, fresh lime, and a bit of edible color as directed, mix it together very well.

Duration:

keep the bottle in a safe place for 24 hrs.as the days will pass, the fragrance will mature.

Now your job is done .You have your very own room freshener.enjoy.

bye
